Teaching Philosophy
As an art teacher Samantha want her students to have the courage to share their truth. She want to give her students the tools and skills to be able to share their story in a way that others— particularly those different from themselves can listen, not just hear, but listen and understand. Today’s world is clouded with noise, both auditory and visual. Being able to craft an image, a message, a text, that can be seen as well as understood. The latter is of the utmost importance. She strives to encourage her students to become self sufficient beings and thinkers. The difference between being a good teacher and a great teacher, is not only recognizing what you want for your students, but what your students want for themselves. Too often children have their paths decided for them by their surroundings whether that be where they live, who they were born too, or where they went to school. The art classroom presents an opportunity for rediscovery. Who are you as an artist? What do you want to say? How do you want to say it? What do you want to leave behind? Samantha wants to give her students the gift of empowerment. She want for them to use art as a way to tell their story, to be able to share their truths.
